While many teenagers play in bands, not many of them are blues bands. What makes "Cold in Hand " unique is that we play blues from Delta and Mississippi Bluesmen such as Robert Johnson and Magic Slim to Rock and Funk Blues from Stevie Ray Vaughan and Luther Allison. We also are continually adding new, original material to our impressive set list.
The band started out as a group of musicians that were enrolled in a blues class that met at the Zoo Bar. In this class, we had the opportunity to open up for Bernard Allison, Davina & the Vagabonds, and were selected to participate in the Youth Showcase at The International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN in 2011. After being a part of the program for about a year and a half, we realized we needed to go out on their own and formed "Cold in Hand ". As a blues band, we felt it was fitting that an old blues phrase meaning penniless/broke/poor, would be a good name for a band. "Cold in Hand " is currently a 4 piece band who is continuing to keep the blues alive to a new generation.
Individually members from the group have played with such national blues greats as Magic Slim (on numerous occasions), and Janiva Magness. Regionally they have performed with The Blues Orchestra, The Blues Messengers, The Lil’ Slim Blues Band and many others.
We consider the world famous Zoo Bar in Lincoln, Nebraska as our home venue which regularly hosts all of the blues greats in the business.
